Some images start off with a specific idea or concept in mind. Others are just completely organic. I’ll start off with one photo – in this case a photos of a woman standing in a field – then I’ll just flip through my photo collection and stop when something hits me.
Exactly hat hits me I don’t know, maybe its just that I’m looking at the images thinking “what if…”. When I stop at a photo, in this case a photo of a large tree, I think what if I take her out of the field and make her dress out of this tree. “Brilliant!” I say to myself, let’s try that — LOL! So I try that and in this case it worked out really well. Once I go ahead and add the upside down tree to the photo, I started to think about what this image represented…what the heck am I saying with this image.
As I’m thinking about that I knew I had to balance the image somehow, I mean the tree makes her a bit bottom heavy so to speak! So I added a large moon. Once that was added I came up with the overall title for the piece – Mother Nature’s Daughter.
The idea was that Mother Nature knows more than she wants to know about the world in general and how it works and if she had a daughter she would want to protect her from as much of it as possible – as we all do! So “grounding” her daughter would be a temporary answer. I thought the look on the girl’s face was a bit sad so I thought the concept worked!
Once I had the concept I started to think about what should be behind her so I added the land on the left and the sea on the right, it didn’t seem right to have one but not the other. The crow, seagull and small flowers were added to help communicate “nature”.
This image was created for the Textures Only Group competition on Flickr, the image came in 2nd place!
